Under the Washington public records act, I request the following from the Port of Tacoma Police Department:
- A copy of all use of force reports - or similar reports identified by a different name - documenting use of force incidents involving officers employed by the department. I’m requesting copies of all reports prepared on or after January 1, 2017.
A copy of an electronic database, if your agency maintains one, that tracks information about use of force incidents at your department (such as: officer name, officer age/race/sex, type of force used, weapon used, date of incident, incident number, name/age/ race/sex of suspect, description of force, reason for force, use of force outcome -injuries/death, and any other fields that your department collects). I’m requesting that this database include all incidents that occurred on or after January 1, 2017.
- A copy of all records of disciplinary action taken against officers employed by your department in response to use-of-force incidents that occurred on or after January 1, 2017.
- A copy of your “Use of Force” manual, and/or any rules pertaining to that topic that officers are trained to observe.
I prefer to receive these records in electronic format, if possible. Please release each of the four items as they become available instead of waiting for the entire request to be complete.
I agree to pay any reasonable copying and postage fees. If the cost would be greater than $10, please notify me. As provided by the open records law, I will expect your response within five business days. If you choose to deny this order, please provide a written explanation for the denial including a reference to the specific statutory exemption(s) upon which you rely. Also, please provide all segregable portions of otherwise exempt material.
Thank you for your assistance. Please contact me by e-mail at email@example.com or on my cell at 206-348-4106 if you have questions about this request.
