Under the Washington Public Records Act, §42.56 et seq., I am requesting an opportunity to inspect or obtain copies of the March monthly cargo statistics for the Port of Tacoma. With the formation of the Seaport Alliance the data is being released monthly as a combined number with Seattle and Tacoma, but I am requesting that data for just the Port of Tacoma.
I would like the Tacoma full month by month TEU cargo statistics from March 2014 to March 2015. As has always been done in the past, I would like those broken up between International Imports, International Exports, International Total, Alaska Total, Hawaii Total, Domestic Total and the overall port total. As with the previous months the data should also contain the year to date totals for each of those categories as well as the percent change year over year and month over month.
Please see the attached document, which until December was the data released by the port on a monthly basis, as the format for which I would like to receive this data. An excel file or PDF via email will be fine.
I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest and will contribute significantly to the public’s understanding of the Seaport Alliance and the Puget Sound Gateway as it relates to global trade. I am the port reporter with The Seattle Times and this information is critical for me to keep the public informed about our local ports. This information is not being sought for commercial purposes.
The Washington Public Records Act requires a response to this request be made within five business days. If access to the records I am requesting will take longer than this amount of time, please contact me with information about when I might expect copies or the ability to inspect the requested records.
I understand that the joint Puget Sound Gateway cargo statistic data will be released the week of April 20th – most likely the 18th or 19th – I would like to receive the separate Tacoma data in that same time period. Will that be possible?
If you deny any or all of this request, please cite each specific exemption you feel justifies the refusal to release the information and notify me of the appeal procedures available to me under the law.
